UPSC CSE Prelims Syllabus (GS Paper I & II)

Paper I: General Studies Current Events of National and International Importance: This includes significant news and developments from India and around the world. History of India and Indian National Movement: Focuses on the cultural, social, political, and economic aspects of Indian history, with a special emphasis on the Indian freedom struggle. Indian and World Geography: Covers the physical, social, and economic geography of India and the world. Indian Polity and Governance: Topics include the Constitution of India, the political system, Panchayati Raj, public policy, and rights issues. Economic and Social Development: Focuses on sustainable development, poverty, inclusion, demographics, and social sector initiatives. General Issues on Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity, and Climate Change: This section doesn’t require subject specialization but tests general awareness. General Science: Covers general scientific principles and their applications.

पेपर १: सामान्य अध्ययन राष्ट्रीय आणि आंतरराष्ट्रीय महत्त्वाच्या चालू घडामोडी: भारत आणि जगभरातील महत्त्वाच्या बातम्या आणि घडामोडी. भारताचा इतिहास आणि भारतीय राष्ट्रीय चळवळ: भारतीय इतिहासाचे सांस्कृतिक, सामाजिक, राजकीय आणि आर्थिक पैलू, तसेच भारतीय स्वातंत्र्य संग्रामावर विशेष लक्ष. भारत आणि जगाचा भूगोल: भारत आणि जगाचा भौतिक, सामाजिक आणि आर्थिक भूगोल. भारतीय राज्यव्यवस्था आणि शासन: भारताचे संविधान, राजकीय व्यवस्था, पंचायती राज, सार्वजनिक धोरण आणि हक्कांचे मुद्दे. आर्थिक आणि सामाजिक विकास: शाश्वत विकास, दारिद्र्य, समावेशन (inclusion), लोकसंख्याशास्त्र आणि सामाजिक क्षेत्रातील उपक्रमांवर लक्ष केंद्रित करणे. पर्यावरण, जैवविविधता आणि हवामान बदलाशी संबंधित सामान्य मुद्दे: या विभागासाठी कोणत्याही विशिष्ट विषयाची आवश्यकता नाही, परंतु सामान्य जागरुकता तपासली जाते. सामान्य विज्ञान: सामान्य वैज्ञानिक तत्त्वे आणि त्यांचे उपयोग.

Paper II: Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) Comprehension: Tests your ability to understand and interpret given passages. Interpersonal Skills including Communication Skills: This section assesses your ability to interact and communicate effectively. Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability: Focuses on your capacity to reason logically and analyze information to draw conclusions. Decision-Making and Problem-Solving: Evaluates your ability to make sound decisions and solve problems in given scenarios. General Mental Ability: Tests your cognitive skills like memory, reasoning, and problem-solving. Basic Numeracy: Covers numbers, their relationships, orders of magnitude, etc., at a Class 10th level. Data Interpretation: Includes charts, graphs, tables, and data sufficiency, also at a Class 10th level.

पेपर २: नागरी सेवा कल चाचणी/बुद्धिमत्ता चाचणी (CSAT) आकलन (Comprehension): दिलेल्या उताऱ्यांचा अर्थ समजून घेण्याची आणि त्याचा अर्थ लावण्याची तुमची क्षमता तपासली जाते. आंतरवैयक्तिक कौशल्ये (Interpersonal Skills) आणि संवाद कौशल्ये: प्रभावीपणे संवाद साधण्याची तुमची क्षमता तपासली जाते. तार्किक विचार आणि विश्लेषणात्मक क्षमता: तार्किकपणे विचार करण्याची आणि माहितीचे विश्लेषण करून निष्कर्ष काढण्याची तुमची क्षमता तपासली जाते. निर्णय घेणे आणि समस्या निराकरण (Decision-Making and Problem-Solving): दिलेल्या परिस्थितीत योग्य निर्णय घेण्याची आणि समस्या सोडवण्याची तुमची क्षमता तपासली जाते. सामान्य मानसिक क्षमता: तुमची संज्ञानात्मक कौशल्ये जसे की स्मरणशक्ती, तर्कशक्ती आणि समस्या निराकरण तपासले जाते. मूलभूत संख्याज्ञान: इयत्ता १० वीच्या स्तरावरील संख्या, त्यांचे संबंध, मोठेपणाचे क्रम इत्यादींचा समावेश होतो. आकडेवारीचे विश्लेषण (Data Interpretation): चार्ट, आलेख, सारण्या आणि आकडेवारीची पर्याप्तता, हे देखील इयत्ता १० वीच्या स्तरावरील आहे.

MAINS Examination

The UPSC Civil Services Mains Examination consists of nine papers. Of these, seven are counted for the final merit list, and two are qualifying in nature. The papers are as follows: Qualifying Papers (300 marks each) Paper A: Indian Language: Candidates must choose one language from the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. Paper B: English: This paper tests your reading comprehension, précis writing, and general grammar and vocabulary. Papers for Merit Ranking (250 marks each) Paper I: Essay: Candidates write an essay on a given topic, assessing their ability to articulate ideas in a clear, coherent, and well-structured manner. Paper II: General Studies I: This paper covers Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the World, and Society. Paper III: General Studies II: The syllabus includes Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice, and International Relations. Paper IV: General Studies III: This paper focuses on Technology, Economic Development, Biodiversity, Environment, Security, and Disaster Management. Paper V: General Studies IV: Also known as the Ethics paper, it assesses a candidate’s Ethics, Integrity, and Aptitude. Paper VI & VII: Optional Subject Papers I & II: Candidates must choose one optional subject from a list provided by the UPSC. There are two papers for each optional subject, each worth 250 marks.

UPSC नागरी सेवा मुख्य परीक्षा (UPSC Civil Services Mains Examination) मध्ये एकूण नऊ पेपर्स असतात. यापैकी सात पेपर्सचे गुण अंतिम गुणवत्ता यादीसाठी विचारात घेतले जातात, तर दोन पेपर्स केवळ पात्रतेसाठी (qualifying) असतात. पात्रता पेपर्स (प्रत्येकी ३०० गुण) पेपर अ: भारतीय भाषा: उमेदवाराला भारतीय संविधानाच्या आठव्या अनुसूचीमधील (Eighth Schedule) कोणत्याही एका भाषेची निवड करावी लागते. पेपर ब: इंग्रजी: या पेपरमध्ये वाचन आकलन (reading comprehension), सारांश लेखन (précis writing), तसेच सामान्य व्याकरण आणि शब्दसंग्रह तपासला जातो. गुणवत्ता यादीसाठी विचारात घेतले जाणारे पेपर्स (प्रत्येकी २५० गुण) पेपर १: निबंध (Essay): दिलेल्या विषयावर निबंध लिहावा लागतो. यात उमेदवाराची कल्पना स्पष्ट, सुसंगत आणि सुव्यवस्थितपणे मांडण्याची क्षमता तपासली जाते. पेपर २: सामान्य अध्ययन १ (General Studies I): यामध्ये भारतीय वारसा आणि संस्कृती, जगाचा इतिहास आणि भूगोल, आणि समाज यांचा समावेश असतो. पेपर ३: सामान्य अध्ययन २ (General Studies II): या पेपरमध्ये शासनव्यवस्था (Governance), संविधान (Constitution), राजकारण (Polity), सामाजिक न्याय (Social Justice) आणि आंतरराष्ट्रीय संबंध (International Relations) यांचा अभ्यासक्रम असतो. पेपर ४: सामान्य अध्ययन ३ (General Studies III): हा पेपर तंत्रज्ञान, आर्थिक विकास, जैवविविधता, पर्यावरण, सुरक्षा आणि आपत्कालीन व्यवस्थापन या विषयांवर केंद्रित असतो. पेपर ५: सामान्य अध्ययन ४ (General Studies IV): याला ‘नीतिमत्ता’ (Ethics) पेपर असेही म्हणतात. यात उमेदवाराची नीतिमत्ता, सचोटी आणि योग्यता तपासली जाते. पेपर ६ आणि ७: ऐच्छिक विषय पेपर १ आणि २ (Optional Subject Papers I & II): उमेदवाराला UPSC ने दिलेल्या यादीमधून एक ऐच्छिक विषय (optional subject) निवडावा लागतो. प्रत्येक ऐच्छिक विषयासाठी दोन पेपर्स असतात, प्रत्येकी २५० गुणांचा.
